Dr. Herschel Lessin is a Board Certified Pediatrician in full time private practice since 1982. He is a founding member and Medical Director of The Children's Medical Group PLLC (www.childrensmedgroup.com). The Children's Medical Group is one of the largest single specialty Pediatric groups in the United States with 25 Pediatricians in 6 offices serving 35,000 children.
Dr. Lessin received his B.S. in Biology summa cum laude from Union College in Schenectady, New York. He went on to earn his M.D. from Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California and did his Pediatric Internship and Residency at Yale.
An advocate for patient education, Dr. Lessin has appeared on regional television and hosts his own radio show, "Kidstuff", devoted to helping parents with the health and development of their children. He answers pediatric questions posted on Medweb of the Hudson Valley (www.hvmedweb.com), a regional health information website. He is both a contributor and the Editor of the Children's Health Focus for Healthology.com. Additionally, Dr. Lessin authors a bi-weekly newspaper column answering parents'questions about their kids, titled Pediatrician On Call.
An expert on Managed Care, Dr. Lessin is certified by the American Association of Health Plans and was a founder and, for 14 years, Chairman of the Taconic Independent Practice Association (www.taconicIPA.com),a group of over 2000 physicians in private practice who contract with managed care organizations.
Dr. Lessin is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a member of The Medical Society of the State of New York and the National Association of Medical Communicators. He has served as Chairman of the Mid-Hudson Pediatric Society and was Director of the Vassar Brothers Hospital Special Care Nursery. He has served on the Board of Directors of many organizations including the March of Dimes, The American Cancer Society, and MVP Health Plan. He has been the spokesman for the regional chapter of Make-A-Wish Foundation and was chairman of the local Great American Smoke Out. Dr. Lessin is frequently called upon to serve as an expert witness in Pediatric medical malpractice litigation.
