Bruce D. Cameron, MD is a glaucoma specialist in private
practice at Chelsea Eye Associates in lower Manhattan. Dr. Cameron is also
a clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology, and teaches patient care
and cutting-edge surgical techniques to residents at the NYU Medical Center
and Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan.
Dr. Cameron uses his expertise in the field of glaucoma
to deliver state-of-the-art eye care to his patients, including the newest
medical treatments, laser and incisional surgery, and aqueous drainage
implants.
Dr. Cameron is actively involved in glaucoma research
and in teaching clinical and surgical skills to ophthalmology residents.
He has participated in clinical investigation of new medications to treat
glaucoma. His other interests include the application of the newest technology
in imaging techniques to the early detection and management of glaucoma.
Dr. Cameron has been involved in the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study,
a nationwide study to determine the risk of developing glaucoma in patients
with elevated eye pressure, and the possible role of early treatment of
these patients to prevent the development of glaucoma. He has also participated
in studies to discover the genetic basis of inherited glaucoma, investigation
of the outcome of various types of combined glaucoma and cataract surgery,
and studies of the use of lasers in glaucoma surgery.
Dr. Cameron is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology,
and earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston,
Texas. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Vanderbilt University
Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was Chief Resident, and
his fellowship in glaucoma at the W. K. Kellogg Eye Center at the University
of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
